Steven R Paterson started out by running a small plumbing and heating firm from his garage in Harray, in the West Mainland in 1992. As the business took off, it was expanded into Stevie’s brothers’ byre for 6 months while the shed in Upper Bigging was being renovated. At this point there were only a few plumbers and one member of office staff.

In 1995 Orkney Mechanical Services was founded by Stevie and Terry Warr who later went on to sell his share.

In 1999, both businesses moved to a more central location, in Hatston Industrial Estate where there was room for an OMS workshop and store, and a shop and plumbing store for Paterson’s. This allowed the company to grow and keep showrooms with tiles and other products. At the same time as moving, both firms became limited companies.

Today Steven R Paterson Ltd has 9 plumbers, 1 project manager, 1 electrician, 1 store man, 1 refrigeration engineer, 1 refrigeration apprentice and 5 office staff. Orkney Mechanical have 2 blacksmiths, 1 project manager, 1 heating engineer and 1 ventilation engineer.

We boast two showrooms full with large selections of tiles, baths, toilets, basins, taps, toilet seats and accessories.

We have a comprehensive plumbing store complete with flue pipe, chinaware, and a variety of fixtures and fittings.
